The artists have been hard at work once again creating a piece of art for the wonderful Figuramians out there. This time, it was different. This time, they had to follow up on one of our best received, widely claimed masterpieces, Alucard.
Let's talk with Daniel Kamarudin, our amazing concept artist, the one this piece started with, to understand what happens when you have such big shoes to fill.
How did it feel to create a statue for such a renowned series like Hellsing?
I'm a fan of the series so it was a pretty cool experience.
With Alucard being hailed as a masterpiece, what were you looking to achieve with Seras?
Make sure it followed in Alucard's footsteps. The details, theme, composition had to make it a worthy follow up piece.
What challenges did you face when concepting and designing this statue?
Matching the scale of the first (Alucard) statue was a challenge. We needed to create something that could sit next to the Alucard and feel like part of the same collection.
What did you want our wonderful collectors to feel when seeing the Seras statue?
Look at it and discover all its details. The statue was designed to be viewed from all angles and there's always something new to find of appreciate whenever you turn the piece.
What made this statue design unique?
The balance of the composition, given how many things are happening, is something you don't see very often, even in other Figurama pieces.
How long did you work on this piece for?
Can't remember exactly, but about a month or so for design if we include the back and forth.
What’s your favorite part of the statue?
The way the 3D executed the concept. It's quite complicated, with several figures, bit of a diorama and large effects mixed together. All that plus swappable complicates things even more.
What’s your favorite moment from the Hellsing series?
The various ways Alucard chooses to dispatch his enemies. The guy's old and can't really die so he gets creative in the way he plays with his food.
What made this design different to anything else on the market?
I believe, outside of the Alucard, it's the only large scale collectable made for Seras and the Hellsing IP
